SCHOOL HISTORY

Since our founding in 1995, Notre Dame School has remained steadfast in our commitment to academic excellence, human formation, and the pursuit of truth. What began as a small preschool, rooted in Catholic values and guided by a vision of holistic education, has grown into a fully accredited international school serving students from early childhood through Grade 12.

Over the years, our journey has been marked by growth, innovation, and recognition. We are proudly accredited by both the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS), distinctions that place us among a select group of institutions meeting the highest standards of global education. Our dedication to innovation has also been recognized by Microsoft, which has designated us a Showcase School for our leadership in integrating technology to enhance learning.

Since 1996, we have been part of the NASA GLOBE Program, engaging our students in authentic scientific research and fostering curiosity about the world they inhabit. These milestones, along with our continued emphasis on intellectual rigor, moral values, and creativity, have shaped Notre Dame School into a place where future leaders are formed.

Our alumni, who have gone on to distinguished careers in fields as diverse as science, engineering, communications, and the arts, reflect the lasting impact of an education rooted in both excellence and character. Each success story speaks to the mission we uphold: to prepare students not only for higher education, but for lives of integrity, responsibility, and purpose.

Nearly three decades since our founding, we continue to embody the spirit of our name — Notre Dame, Our Lady — honoring a tradition of faith while embracing the challenges and opportunities of a global future.

Being accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) is a mark of excellence that reflects Notre Dame School’s unwavering commitment to high-quality education. NEASC accreditation is recognized internationally as a standard of academic rigor, institutional integrity, and continuous improvement.

For Notre Dame School, this accreditation ensures that our curriculum, teaching practices, and school culture meet the highest global standards. It validates our dedication to fostering critical thinking, creativity, and ethical leadership among our students. NEASC also provides a framework for ongoing self-assessment and growth, helping us continuously enhance our programs, embrace innovation, and prepare students for success in higher education and beyond.

In addition, Notre Dame School is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), a recognition that affirms our standing as a globally-minded institution. CIS accreditation emphasizes international best practices, intercultural understanding, and a commitment to shaping responsible global citizens. It also ensures that our students are prepared to thrive in diverse academic and professional environments, equipped with both the intellectual and ethical foundation to make a meaningful impact.

Together, NEASC and CIS accreditations reinforce our mission to provide a world-class education while staying true to our values, offering families and students confidence that Notre Dame School delivers both academic excellence and a forward-looking, globally relevant learning experience.

Notre Dame School and the Regulatory Environment of MINERD

As an institution committed to academic excellence and integrity, Notre Dame School operates within the regulatory framework established by the Ministerio de Educación de la República Dominicana (MINERD). This national body sets the standards, policies, and guidelines that ensure all schools in the Dominican Republic provide quality education aligned with the country’s educational objectives and cultural values.

For Notre Dame School, compliance with MINERD is both a responsibility and an opportunity. By adhering to its regulations, we guarantee that our curriculum, assessment systems, and institutional practices remain consistent with the nation’s requirements, while also meeting the demands of our international accreditations. This dual alignment allows us to honor our Dominican identity and legal obligations, while positioning our students to succeed in a global context.

Working alongside MINERD, we uphold the principles of inclusivity, equity, and accountability that form the foundation of Dominican education. Our collaboration with the ministry ensures that students graduate not only with international preparation but also with a profound connection to the traditions, values, and civic responsibilities of the Dominican Republic.

In this way, MINERD serves as an essential partner in our mission, helping us sustain high standards, cultivate responsible citizenship, and contribute to the nation’s educational advancement. By integrating both national guidelines and international best practices, Notre Dame School continues to stand as a model of excellence and responsibility in the Dominican Republic’s educational landscape.
